KYC is an inclusive neighbourhood sailing club founded in 1934 with the goal of fostering amateur sailing on English Bay. The club has been operating continuously since that date from its location just West of Kits swimming pool, and is the home to many active one-design fleets, including the Star, 5o5, Martin 242, Lightning, and Cal20.
Vancouver has many yacht and sailing clubs, but the Kitsilano Yacht Club experience offers community, friendship, and the ability to get out on the water at any level and with any amount of experience. KYC is a volunteer run club where everyone uses their unique skills to, for example, help maintain the property, or volunteer at one of the many events and regattas hosted annually.
KYC offers a number of opportunities to build your sailing skills, starting from lessons for those who have never sailed (or did a long time ago) to those who want to challenge themselves, want to introduce their partner to sailing (but are unsure how) or just want to improve their racing performance.
As your skill develops, it is easy to move into another of our programs to further build your skills and discover your inner athlete, regardless of age. At KYC we believe that getting out on the water to sail, kayak, SUP or paddle benefits one’s mental health, and that everyone should be able to access this amazing health benefit.
See below for more information on how to register for:
Kitsilano Yacht Club is also the home of outrigger canoe and SUP racing teams. Events happen frequently at Kitsilano Yacht Club, and range from weekly evening races to annual regattas that bring an international fleet.
