What makes KYC different from other sailing schools or yacht clubs?
Vancouver has many yacht and sailing clubs, but the not-for-profit, volunteer run Kitsilano Yacht Club experience offers community, friendship, and the ability to get out on the water at any level and with any amount of experience.
Do I need to be a Member to take a class or camp?
Members receive a discount on all programs, but lessons are open to the community at large. We want to help you become a sailor!
If I become a Member after I register, will you refund the Member discount?
Sorry, you need to be a Member at the time of registration.
How can I become a Member?
The process of becoming a member of KYC is straight forward. Click here to complete an online membership application form.
Membership requires a sponsor. If you have agreed with a current KYC Member to act as your sponsor, use their name on your application.
If you don't have a sponsor, or have any questions about Membership, just talk to Carmen, our Membership Director.
The class or camp I want is full. What can I do?
You can register and go on our waitlist for free. We will contact you if a spot becomes available or if we open new dates and/or times. It does happen!
Our goal is to help you become a lifelong sailor. Email us to discuss how we can help you get sailing
How soon can I get sailing?
Our Race Teams (Optimist, Laser and 420) start in April and run through November.
Adult lessons start in May and run through October.
Learn to Sail with your Child starts in June and runs according to demand.
Summer camps run in July and August
Thursday night racing starts in late April and runs to mid-September
If you need to cancel a course, please let us know as soon as possible. If you cancel outside of two weeks prior to the start date of your course, you'll receive a refund, less a $35 cancellation fee. Unfortunately we don't offer refunds within two weeks of the start date of your course.
KYC may need to cancel a class if there are insufficient registrants. If this occurs, we will happily transfer your registration to another suitable time, provide you with a credit or fully refund your payment.
What if I break my leg or am diagnosed with Covid-19?
There is no cancellation fee for registrants who test positive for COVID. Just send us a picture of the positive result and we will reschedule your lesson or refund your payment
If you break your leg or arm, or are otherwise seriously injured, please send us the note from the doctor or hospital and we will either reschedule your lesson or camp OR refund your payment.
What do I need to bring to my lesson or camp?
· A PFD (personal flotation device or lifejacket)
· Closed toe shoes that can get wet.
· Clothing suitable for the current weather conditions (no cotton, wetsuits are great)
· A face mask for the on land portion of the program
